If you want a home away from home for your furry friend, with lots of safe space to run and play, so you can relax knowing your dog is having a great holiday, for a few hours, a few days, or even months – you’re in the right place!

Shine Canine offers a small home-based boarding facility for friendly dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages.  We have a maximum of 25-30 dogs overnight, and that’s generally only in peak season, most nights we have an average of 5-15 dogs.  So you can be sure that we personally know all of the dogs in our care.

We are not your standard run-of-the-mill boarding kennel.  Dogs staying with us get to spend most of their day out of their kennels (with access to their kennels if they would like a rest), participating in our doggy daycare groups, in the spacious fully deer fenced areas playgrounds, ramps to climb on and jump over, and a in summer some paddling pools and troughs to cool off in too.

We also have a seperate area which is suitable for small dogs, this includes access into “little dog lounge” inside the barn which has a couch, a swing bed as well as individual crates to sleep in.  Small dogs also getting taken out to the large fenced areas to explore and run around as they please daily.

This is something that I have wanted to set up for quite some time now, and in mid 2016 we found our perfect piece of land with a house on it, on a peaceful 1.5 acres, surrounded by dairy farm and only a few minutes out of Whitianga (on the Coromandel Peninsula).  In December 2016 we opened our purpose built facilities.

Working with dogs isn’t a job for us, it is a passion, we love being out with the dogs, watching them interact together and spending time with them, learning about their individual quirks and traits.

We would love to take care of your furry friend, provided that they are well socialised (with dogs and people), registered (with council), fully vaccinated (including kennel cough) wormed and de-flead, happy to be in a kennel/crate and not a barker/noisy dog.

You can bring your dogs food (or we can supply) and it’s bedding so it feels more at home, and it can call our place their place while you are away, and we can keep you updated with messages and photos and you can relax knowing your dog is having a great holiday too.

Our vehicle has custom built dog crates so if we need to we can transport your dog safely along with ours – and yes we can do ferry drop offs and pick ups!

Visiting from out of town and unable to take your dog with you?  We had you in mind when we were planning this – if your dog is staying with us you are welcome to come and pick them up and drop them back with prior arrangement during our opening hours.

We open for drop off and pick up twice a day:

MORNING: 8.15-9.00am
AFTERNOON: 4.30-5.15pm

These are our opening hours as per our resource consent, and we have to keep to these hours to keep noise levels and disruptions to the dogs to a minimum.

PLEASE NOTE REGARDING NOISY DOGS: As we live on site with our small children, and to respect our neighbourhood and protect our resource consent we are unable to take dogs that continue to be noisy (barking/howling/crying), such as barking when put in their kennel, or crying/howling due to separation of human contact. If you bring your dog and it is continuing to be a problem with it’s noise level, unfortunately we will have to contact you to come and collect it.  If you are unsure how they would go, we recommend booking them for one day and night to see how they go, we would hate for you to have to cut your trip short because your dog wasn’t coping in a kennel environment
